These “sharp-looking” greens get their name from their sword-shaped fronds. Sword ferns (Polystichum munitum) are native to western North America and are beloved for their fringed edges and their ability to add rich texture to any arrangement. They are available year-round and are versatile enough to be used in many wedding and party themes, from rustic and country to boho and even elegant. Looking for inspiration? Some of our favorite designs include using them to accent spray roses, thistle dynamite, hypericum berries, Queen Anne’s lace and Veronica for a boho-chic vibe; for a classically romantic affair, use them as the backdrop to ranunculus, anemones, peonies and garden roses; and for the earthy bride, we suggest grouping them with other greens — succulents, green hydrangea, and kale.
